owen & the eyeballs
Owen & The Eyeballs are a band of internationally acclaimed illustrators with a flair for the theatrical, blending wonky garage-pop hooks with psychedelic oddness and a distinctly visual imagination. Formed in London from the live drawing and music night Heavy Pencil, the four-piece - Nick White, Andrew Rae, Jim Stoten and Owen Gildersleeve - have built a cult following through their surreal live shows, where oversized handmade costumes and absurd characters transform gigs into joyous, unpredictable happenings. Inspired by artists like Bruce Lacey and Sun Ra, their work exists somewhere between art performance and band, rooted in spontaneity, humour and a love of the unexpected.
After releasing their self-titled debut in 2012, the group continued to write songs in a loose, often one-off fashion around sporadic gigs, eventually gathering them into their second album, Owen & The Eyeballs Too, released via Lost Map Records. Recorded live over three days at Total Refreshment Centre with producer Kristian Craig Robinson, the album captures their most immediate and uninhibited side - combining garage rock, art pop and beautifully unpolished chaos. At its core, Owen & The Eyeballs is an outlet for pure creative freedom: playful, heartfelt music made for the joy of it, best enjoyed loudly, collectively, and perhaps while dancing around your living room in your pants.
