Split evenly between traditional songs and covers of artists who’ve deeply influenced her listening - including Richard Thompson, Lou Reed, Robert Wyatt and Black Sabbath - 8Men places 500-year-old ballads alongside modern “folk-lore” narratives, suggesting they belong to the same continuum. It’s an album of mini-myths and cautionary tales, where oral tradition meets modern production, and where songs aren’t preserved behind glass but re-animated, reshaped and allowed to mutate.
