“Instantly catchy, sub-three-minute indie-pop gems that linger on the ear... we are smitten”
– The Skinny

Count Florida are a Glasgow trio making short, catchy, dreamy queer indie-pop with a less-is-more attitude. Formed in 2019 by Mel Whittle (vocals/guitar) and Scott Argo (drums), the band grew out of years spent playing in the city’s DIY scene, bringing together Mel’s background in punk and The Hermit Crabs with Scott’s adventures in folk and indie with Cheetaras and Owls of Now. Their 2022 debut album Choose Your Own… introduced a wiry, guitar-driven collection of songs about bad jobs, queer romance, transition, chasing joy and big ginger cats. Andrew Milk, of Shopping and Current Affairs, joined on bass in 2024, helping the band explore dreamier guitars, richer textures and new melodic possibilities.

Rooted in friendship and a shared belief in the power of a great tune, Count Florida find humour, warmth and moments of recognition in life’s messier corners. Their songs are frank about grief, relationships and change, but always leave room for joy - and a chorus to sing along with. Their second album, Love Without Alarm, is their first for Lost Map: ten songs written over five years of upheaval, held together by Mel’s bright vocals and the joyful tumble of guitar, bass and drums. For fans of Yo La Tengo, early Camera Obscura and The Breeders, it’s a heartfelt invitation to keep going, hold your friends close and make some noise together.
