Isa Gordon is an Ayrshire-raised, Glasgow-based producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist whose uncategorisable output blurs the lines between club music, folk, punk and experimental sound design. Raised in rural Auchinleck, surrounded by traditional Scots song as well as the records of Bowie, Kraftwerk and The Velvet Underground, Isa absorbed a wide spectrum of influences from an early age. After moving to Glasgow as a teenager, immersing herself in electronic music and studying engineering and production, she began weaving these disparate strands together into something entirely her own. Her 2022 debut album For You Only (Optimo Music) marked her out as a singular new voice – hailed by JD Twitch as “a once in a blue moon talent” with next-level programming and sound design rooted in soul and musicality.
Her latest album, 8Men, reimagines the folk compilation for a new era: eight traditionals and 20th century covers reframed through skirling electronics, hauntingly processed vocals and quaking beats. From ancient ballads to songs by Richard Thompson, Lou Reed, Robert Wyatt and Black Sabbath, Isa treats each as living folklore – tales of love, war, family and womanhood retold in a bold new musical language. Highlights include her stirring, landscape-lamenting take on ‘Wheely Down’, inspired by the changing terrain of her native Auchinleck. With 8Men, Isa Gordon bridges centuries of song, proving that tradition is not fixed in time but constantly reshaped through reinterpretation.
