“A real hero of the Scottish underground scene” Huw Stevens

Pictish Trail is the psychedelic electronic-pop project of Isle of Eigg-based songwriter Johnny Lynch. Across six studio albums, he’s carved out a singular world of wonky synth-pop, lo-fi folk electronics and emotional widescreen songwriting. Early releases Secret Soundz Vols. 1 & 2 (2008 / 2013) established his DIY roots before the breakthrough Future Echoes (2016) won the public vote at the Scottish Album of the Year Awards and was later reissued by Fire Records. Thumb World followed in 2020, with Island Family arriving in 2022 to widespread acclaim from The Observer, The Times, Mojo, Uncut and BBC 6 Music. In 2024 he released Follow Footsteps, a reworked EP of Island Family material via Lost Map Records, ahead of the forthcoming sixth album Life Slime, featuring the singles ‘Infinity Ooze’, ‘Hold It’, ‘Torch Song’ and the eight-minute kraut-pop centrepiece ‘Another Way’.

A tireless live performer, Pictish Trail has toured internationally both as a headliner and in support of artists such as Belle & Sebastian, Pavement, Mogwai, Sea Power and KT Tunstall. Festival highlights include Glastonbury (Park Stage), Field Day, Camp Bestival, Blue Dot, the Edinburgh Fringe and Celtic Connections, as well as a unique distinction of having played every single edition of Green Man Festival to date. In 2026 he continues to tour the UK in support of Life Slime, with headline dates to be announced soon…
