PICTISH TRAIL'S NEW ALBUM ISLAND FAMILY
Welcome to the (island) family! Lost Map are excited to support Fire Records in the release of the fifth album by Pictish Trail AKA the Isle-of-Eigg dwelling electro-acoustic psych-pop ogre, AAKA Johnny Lynch. Arriving March 18, 2022 on limited-edition slime green vinyl, black vinyl, CD and digital platforms, its announcement is marked with the release of two brand new tracks, ‘Island Family’ and ‘Melody Something’, both of which you can watch new videos for as well as stream and share now. You can also watch the epic viral video for ‘Natural Successor’, which sees Johnny marauding across Eigg, wrecking the joint, before getting severely decked by Mother Nature. 10/10, can recommend.
A strange, unpredictable, sardonic and yet deeply personal record inspired by all from Fever Ray to The Flaming Lips, Liars, Mercury Rev and Beck, Island Family is Pictish Trail’s contrarian view of arcadia; a search for the euphoric in the bucolic, bound up in sometimes conflicting ideas and feelings around nature and environment, sincerity and artifice, escapism and belonging. In the meantime, enjoy the fast'n'loose skronky rock'n'roll stylings of 'Life More Abundant' which features guest saxophone from Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo, Cate Le Bon, Aldous Harding) and which is available as part of this month's PostMap Club subscription service (as well as on digital platforms). A song as abundant in life, joy and goodness in its mere two-and-a-bit minutes as an Aldi "Snackrite" 30-pack crisps variety pack is abundant in crisps.
Also available as part of November's PostMap Club abundance: strident blast of post-punk protest pop 'Vision Of Change', the brand new single from the incredible Bas Jan and the latest taste of their forthcoming second album, Baby U Know (coming January 2022, more news to follow), and Alexia Avina's stunning 'How Can I Learn', a stand-alone track of "ambient rage" from the New York-based ethereal singer-songwriter, fusing heart-felt vocals with layers of blistering distortion.
