DOMINIE HOOPER'S LOST MAP DEBUT SINGLE
|
|
A spellbinding song about magic and metamorphosis built from growling cello and ritualistic collective voice, ‘Land’ is the Lost Map debut single by London-based DIY singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dominie Hooper. Produced and mixed by Ben Hillier – best known for his work with Depeche Mode, Blur and Nadine Shah among others – it’s an intriguing first taste of a fuller collection of Dominie’s music set for release later in 2025. You can catch Dominie live at a number of festivals this summer, including Smugglers in Kent, August 28-30 (also feat. Pictish Trail, Blind Yeo and Painting), with more TBA soon.
Born and raised on Dartmoor in Devon – the largest and wildest expanse of open land in southern England – Dominie is a force of nature. Propelled by a pure and powerful voice, textured layers of cello and guitar and a blistering live band, her songwriting is as rugged and dramatic as the environment which shaped her. Think the brooding swagger of Richard and Linda Thompson’s I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, the raw intensity of Magnolia Electric Co., and the harrowing energy of PJ Harvey and John Parish. In 2024, Dominie played two UK headline tours and a support tour for This Is The Kit, as well as festivals including Deer Shed, Moseley Folk and Shambala. She's already had loads of radio play across the BBC, including most recently a spin for 'Land' on Gideon Coe's 6 Music show this week.
2025 promises to be a huge year for Dominie Hooper and we will be revealing more new music by her soon. In the meantime, give her a follow on Instagram.

Bloody hell(a), it's the long-awaited return of Manuela! Way back in the mists of time (2017), Lost Map released the self-titled debut album by this London and Munich based duo, comprising of Austrian vocalist and songwriter Manuela Gernedel and her British-born husband, multi-instrumentalist and producer Nick McCarthy (formerly of Franz Ferdinand and FFS). It's an amazing record that went on to get loads of criticial acclaim. It is long since sold-out on vinyl.
Fully eight years on, we're thrilled to say Manuela are finally back, and with something truly worth waiting for in the form of 'Coniine'. A bittersweet off-kilter pop song about poison, death, beauty and innocence, featuring guest vocals from none other than Laetitia Sadier, singer with legendary Anglo-French avant-pop band Stereolab. Yes, this same Stereolab. Even more excitingly, Manuela are heading out on tour from this Sunday supporting Stereolab at dates around Europe (see below for full list).
‘Coniine’ was produced by Nick together with Polina Lapkovskaja, and recorded in Munich with Nick on Rhodes and electric guitar, Polina on bass and piano and Erol Dizdar on drums. It's the first sample of a fuller collection of new Manuela songs which we'll be releasing on Lost Map later this year, and we can't wait to share it with you because it's their best music yet. Wry pop tunes with playful humour, sparkling production and lush arrangements to get swept away in completely.
Give Manuela a follow on Instagram, and stay tuned for more info soon.

MAY POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. ACOLYTE

Yet more brand newness on Lost Map this month comes in the form of the debut single by Edinburgh psychedlic beat-poetry ensemble Acolyte. The group are led by Iona Lee – an award-winning poet, artist, music-maker, storyteller and spoken-word performer – together with a familiar face from the Lost Map fam, Gloria Black, formerly of Maranta ( RIP ☹️). Acolyte annouce their arrival on Lost Map with 'The Dark Blue', a cinematic, dreamlike swirl of synths, poetry and percussion that shimmers with intimacy and mystery. It's available now to members of our PostMap Club subscription service, and it'll be on streaming platforms from next week.
Acolyte will perform live in Edinburgh at the Paper Factory next month as part of the Hidden Door Festival (June 11-15), where they will present Production Line of Dreams. A site-specific, immersive performance made in collaboration with Scottish live performance artist/dancer Suzi Cunningham and London based audio visual artist Eve King. The work is one of Hidden Door's four newly commissioned interdisciplinary Creative Collaborations for 2025, and it uses loops, field recordings, AI and poetry to explore rhythm and repetition, digital disassociation and the attention economy. It will be on at 10pm each evening of the festival. We'll be releasing more music by Acolyte later in the year.
Also included in May's PostMap Club:
Manuela – 'Coniine' (feat. Laetitia Sadier)
Manuela return after eight years with a woozy, dreamlike ballad. Did we mention it features backing vocals from Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier? We're not going to stop mentioning this.
Dominie Hooper – 'Land'
Dominie joins the Lost Map roster with a dark, atmospheric alt-folk incantation blending earthy cello, eerie textures, and a chorus that feels like a spell 👻
