Blobbyblobbyblobby! ------------------- FIRESTATIONS ARE SO BACK WATCH THE VIDEO FOR 'AN APPARITION' Finally freed from captivity from singer Michael's garden shed where they lay gagged and bound for the duration of last year's campaign for the mostly Mike-solo album Many White Horses (copies still on sale now), the rest of the full Firestations line-up have put aside their, not unreasonable, grievances against their singer. The full band has finally Gotten Back Together, for the making and release of the London art-pop fivesome's truly excellent new record International Dust. It's fully their fifth long-player to date, not to mention their fourth for Lost Map, and it's by far their best one yet, ranging from hypnotic sci-fi landscapes to addictive dream-pop jangles, exploring ideas around identity, conflict, progress and sanity. It'll come out this autumn – watch this space for news of when you can pre-order.  The video for the album's first single, dreamy alt-pop number  ‘An Apparition’, is yours to watch and share now. “One of the poppier numbers on the album," says Mike of this song, "with some proper catchy singalong lyrics such as: ‘Minimal detail in a memory shadow, this close to being unnoticeable’. All together now! I wanted this to be a kind of anti-monarchy protest song when I first wrote it, but it seems to be more of a ghost story now, maybe about being haunted or possessed without really understanding how or why. Haunted by a misremembered past, perhaps, and going through a series of collective hallucinations. I was also thinking about Michael Haneke’s German TV adaptation of Kafka’s The Castle quite a bit when this song emerged, and I hope that some of that mood has made it into this.”   Firestations will play at Sea Power’s Krankenhaus festival in the Lake District this summer, and will tour the UK this autumn following the release of International Dust, with some dates announced and on sale now (scroll all the way down for more info). More news on the new album soon. ------------------- BOTH HANDS' DEBUT ALBUM: COMING SOON WATCH THE VIDEO FOR 'SEA SPRAY' No sooner had last month's WayPoints gone out than not long afterwards we announced the release of another exciting new album for this year, this one the debut by dynamic Edinburgh electronic duo Both Hands, AKA Hailey Beavis (vocals) and Brian Pokora (synths, drum machines, sampling). Both are well-known faces on the Edinburgh independent music scene – Hailey as an indie-folk solo singer-songwriter and founder of the artist-led independent label OK Pal Records, and Brian as a member of atmospheric electronic pop project Slim Wrist, not to mention one of the world's many men called Brian. They started making music together as relative strangers a few years ago, and it has bonded them and carried through all sorts of times good and bad, all the way to the making of their debut album Be Like A Mountain In A Moonlit Way. Which will be released by yer old pals Lost Map Records this autumn, and be on pre-order soon.  For now, enjoy Both Hands' debut single 'Sea Spray’ – a euphoric electro-pop song about staying up all night in pursuit of impossible, eternal joy. “This is about trying to outrun the dawn, like it’s something you can hold back with sheer will," Hailey explains. "Like if you get it right, the ritual of partying is strong enough to resist the sun, despite its ancient and unstoppable force. DOVETAILED, SULKA, PICTISH TRAIL JOIN OUR CLUB STREAM AND SHARE DOVETAILED'S 'KITCHEN' LISTEN TO 'METEORITE' BY SULKA An atmospheric, slow-burning indie-folk song about companionship in adversity, ‘Kitchen’ is the stunning debut single by Dovetailed – a brand-new collaborative project between Glasgow musicians Kim Grant (Raveloe) and Simon Liddell (Olympic Swimmers / Frightened Rabbit). Released as part of our PostMap Club subscription service in the month of May, as well as via streaming services, it’s the first taste of the duo’s debut EP, which is out now on limited-edition cassette, and features an additional three tracks, all of which will are for now exclusive to the pretty blue tape. "This one started like the other demos we made but departed quite far from its stripped back original form," say Dovetailed, of how they cooked up 'Kitchen'. "We ended up adding loads of layers and textures, and didn’t hold back on soaking everything in reverb." If you like the sound of what they are serving, know that a full Dovetailed album – made together with drummer/producer Jonny Scott (Chvrches) – is in the oven for later this year. More news to follow on that soon.   “A shoegaze song about an apocalypse scenario from the perspective of a doomsday prepper," says Lukas Clasen AKA Glasgow lo-fi maestro Sulka about his cosmic new one 'Meteorite', which lands this month via the PostMap Club and stream-y stream sites. "I think the geopolitical events and wars of the last few years largely influenced this one," Lukas adds. "I was imagining that a small west coast island wouldn’t be the worst place to be during a natural or manmade disaster.” The small west coast island in question being Bute, which happens to be the name of Sulka's superb new album (because that's where it was written, duh).
