NEW MUSIC FROM PICTISH TRAIL
|
|
Dave Benson Phillips doesn't do lo-fi psych-pop ballads but if he did then they might sound a bit like Pictish Trail's extremely excellent 'Hold It'. A song which Pictish, AKA quite simply Johnny Lynch, says is all about "the guilt, shame, and fear that comes with time slipping through our fingers… all the slimy stuff of life.” Think being dunked in an enormous vat of filthy green slime on the popular nineteen-nineties revenge-based kids TV game show Get Your Own Back, except in the form of, y'know, a song.
The first new Pictish material since his acclaimed 2022 album Island Family is produced by Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP), and released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap subscription service in August (which may we remind you is free to new subscribers until the end of the month). It's also out on streaming platforms via Fire Records. All PostMap Club members will receive an exclusive remix of ‘Hold It’, by latest signings to Lost Map, the Edinburgh synth-pop duo Both Hands. Pictish is touring the UK throughout 2025, with shows of particular note including the Lost Map promoted A Secret Evening Down In London With Pictish Trail at The Social in London on Wednesday, November 26, tickets on sale here (so clearly not that secret, then). You'll find a full list of Pictish's upcoming live movements and links to buy tickets down near the slimy bottom of this newsletter, as well as on the Pictish Trail website dot com.

AUGUST POSTMAP CLUB FEAT.
BLIND YEO + FLO LINES
|
|
"The best things in life are free!" sang Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson in 1992. While they could have been emoting soulfully about anything from little pencils and measuring tapes at IKEA to the concluding fixtures of the 91-92 Football League First Division season which remained available to watch live on BBC/ITV prior to the big FA Premier League BSkyB sellout, we prefer to believe that those two warbling Americans were instead experiencing a premonition. A premonition of Lost Map's PostMap Club subscription service in August, 2025. Which, in case you haven't been paying attention, costs exactly jack sh*t for new subscribers for the remainder of this eighth month of the Year of Our Lord twenty-twenty-five 🙏 Thanks, Luther/Janet!
To celerbrate this freeness, we've sent a really special trilogy of PostMap Club thrillogy your way. Starting with south-west coast psychedelicists Blind Yeo's brand new one 'Love Not Fire'. A slice of flame-grilled euphoria all about "a feeling so intense it transcends... a deep love and connection that blazes through the dark times," says BY's Will Greenham. It makes us think of that time we ate a really excellent XL Burger King "Beef Melt Box™" meal with all the lights off so we didn't have to feel ashamed of our reflection in the bedroom mirror. Blind Yeo are raising spirits and temperatures at some remaining summer festivals and you can find a whole list of them towards the bottom of this beefy e-mail newsletter.
Then there's Flo Lines, back with more extremely chill lo-fi vibes in the form of ‘Tomorrow feels like we are getting nowhere’ b/w ‘The Garden (Spring Instrumental)’. These are bonus tracks taken from a forthcoming limited edition cassette release we’re doing for Flo’s amazing The only thing left is everything EP, which will only be available to purchase from us and from our good pals Good Vibes in Leith (as well as from Flo at live shows). They are PostMap Club exclusives, available nowhere else but on the cassette. Because you are special to us, and we want you to know it.
Also included in August's PostMap Club:
Pictish Trail – 'Hold It' (b/w Both Hands Slow Disco remix)
The first track of original material from Pictish Trail since Island Family, 'Hold It' is a tender, synth-folk song about holding on to love and memory. It’s paired with a blissed-out slow-disco remix by Edinburgh's Both Hands. Which happens to be exactly the number of hands required to eat an extra-beefy Burger King "Beef Melt™".
