A witches brew of live music will come from among others blood-curdling Berliners Painting bringing songs from their ghostly AI-inspired new album Snapshot of Pure Attention 👻. Ocular art-rockers Owen & The Eyeballs 👀 shall take fancy dress to a whole new level with extremely OTT costumes made of Astroturf, papier-mâché and other assorted interesting materials. Pictish Trail need not dress up at all because his natural sheer hairiness already makes so many exclaim in terrified surprise: "why is that deep-pile shag carpet moving about and talking???!!" 🧔🏻♂️

When is an album release not an album release, except yes, it is actually an album release and you can buy/listen to said album with cash money right now? When it's a fan first / tour exclusive pre-release Primordial Blue-In-Pink Goo Edition of Pictish Trail's truly fan-tastic new one Life Slime, of course. It's available to order now on vinyl and CD via Fire Records and yer old pals Lost Map Records. Sorry if this is all a bit confusing but in short: HOORAY FOR PICTISH TRAIL'S GREAT NEW ALBUM, out(ish) now.
Let us explain, sort of. As a bit of an experiment in circumventing or at least temporarily warding off some of the worse aspects of the famously low-paying music streaming monopoly website "Sp*tify", we've decided to roll out the release of Pictish's six full-length LP in a Christopher Nolan-esque chopped up / baffling timeline kind of way. Whereby the record is available to buy in physical formats now, and indeed some tracks – including intimately touching (not like that) new one 'Torch Song', as well as previous tremendous singles 'Hold It' and 'Infinity Ooze' – are on the Sp*tifys as we speak. Except, the whole record won't be on streaming until its "official" release, at a date TBA next year. If you want to hear it in full before then, you're going to have to get physical with us (not like that).
Think of it kind of like that bit in Christopher Nolan's Inception [2010] when the Leonardo Di Caprio guy says to the other guy: "hey I just figured out how to perform corporate espionage using experimental dream-sharing technology to infiltrate a targets' subconscious and extract information etc etc", and the other guy is like: "that's cool Leo but FYI the new fan first / tour exclusive pre-release Primordial Blue-In-Pink Goo Edition of Pictish Trail's new album Life Slime is out now" and Leo's like "ok cool let's do that btw wanna go get a Five Guys?" and then they both go eat a massive Five Guys™ . We might be getting that scene slightly wrong but you get the idea.

VOTE FAITH! HELP DRYAS MAKE THE SHORTLIST FOR THE SCOTTISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR AWARD

In Faith we trust! Earlier this year we released Faith Eliott's stunning debut album dryas – a lush and mysterious trove of sound and poetry touching on everything and literally anything from Pleistocene volcanoes to cursed memes and late-Renaissance apocryphal monsters lurking in the aisles of ASDA. It remains available on limited-edition 12” pastel pink coloured vinyl and via digital services now, and shall be celebrated with a special belated Glasgow launch show at The Glad Cafe this Sunday, October 19 with support from among others Lost Map's own Sulka (tickets on sale now).
dryas has gone on to be nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year Award – congrats Faith! We now we ask for YOUR help in moving it up from the longlist to the shortlist, through the egalitarian power of the public vote. Click here, before midnight tonight (Wednesday), to place your faith in Faith to proudly fly the flag for Scottish music (even though they are technically American, but let's not worry about that). OCTOBER POSTMAP CLUB FEAT. SULKA
|
|
Sulka, AKA Glasgow-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and maestro of slanted DIY melodic rock Lukas Clasen doesn't always sit around with a (smashing) pumpkin on his head. And yet, it bears saying that his absolutely rocking brand new single 'Halloween' – which offers a thrilling first glimpse of a new Sulka album TBA – isn't just just for the spooky season™ but indeed for life.
Among its inspirations are the the film Donnie Darko [2001], "one of my all-time favourites," says Lukas. "There’s such a feeling of nostalgia to that film, as well as themes of inner turmoil and angst, that I wanted to capture in this song. The track’s narrative follows a couple that is struggling to communicate, with their Halloween costumes becoming symbolic of their true selves being disguised."
It makes us think about that time one Halloween night in Glasgow years ago when we saw a man dressed as Spiderman having a full fist fight with another man dressed as a giant baby in a big nappy. Were they too struggling to communicate, with their Halloween costumes becoming symbolic of their true selves disguised? Or were they just hammered drunk? Either way the baby won.
A lo-fi eerie guitar-driven track layered with distorted textures, insistent drums and intimate melodies, ‘Halloween’ is released via Lost Map’s PostMap Club monthly subscription service in October, and is also available to stream and share now. It's Sulka’s first new music since his 2023 album Distractions (“perfect to distract you from all the other noise of modern living” – Snack Mag). More Sulka news coming soon!
